This is my theory, at the end of X-men 2 Gene dies. But you don't actually see her die. You just asume she died because of all the water. What I think will happen is she will be in a third x-men and cerebro will find her alive. Then Wolverine and Cyclops will both fight for her again. Then what will happen is Wolverine will think he loves her but actually he will find a new love.
